PREP TRACK ROUNDUP: Everett boys, Arlington girls collect meet wins

EVERETT —For the Eagles, Bruins and Seagulls, Thursday’s track meet counted, but for these three Wesco teams, it’s all about the Eason.

The Everett boys and Arlington girls won their respective meets at Everett Memorial Stadium, but Saturday’s Eason Invitational in Snohomish is clearly on everyone’s radar, as some key athletes rested or chose not to compete in some of their events.

The Eason is one of the state’s biggest track meets, featuring about 1,300 athletes and 60 teams, and will be highlighted by a very competitive boys javelin event.

Arlington sophomore standout Blake McPherson won Thursday’s event with a toss of 186 feet, nearly 34 feet ahead of the next best throw, but on Saturday, he’ll be duking it out for the title with the likes of 200-plus throwers like Tahoma’s Derek Eager, King’s Curtis Clauson and Everett’s Malaki Seanoa. Seanoa sat out the meet on Thursday.

On the girls side, the Eagles scored an impressive 111 points, outpointing Everett and Cascade combined, while the Seagulls boys edged Arlington.

“This is easily the best girls team I’ve ever had,” said Arlington head coach Judd Hunter.

And although the boys finished second Thursday, Hunter is optimistic about the Eagles’ future.

“We have a lot of young boys on this team,” said Hunter. “Most of them are freshmen and sophomores, so you better watch out for them in a few years.”

Or you can take a trip over to Snohomish tomorrow and catch your very own glimpse of the future.
