The Seattle Seahawks open their training camp Saturday morning, and on Thursday general manager John Schneider addressed the media in his pre-training camp press conference. Most of the talk was about Schneider signing his contract extension, but there were a few tidbits of news about the team:
– Schneider said he expects defensive end Michael Bennett to report. There’s been much speculation surrounding Bennett this offseason, with Bennett not being shy about voicing his displeasure with his contract. It’s been theorized that Bennett may choose to hold out, but Schneider said that as far as he knows Bennett will show up Friday when players report, then take part in Saturday’s first practice.
– Schneider also provided an update on injured offensive starters Jimmy Graham and Thomas Rawls. Graham, the team’s starting tight end, saw last season end because of a torn patellar tendon in his knee, while Rawls, Seattle’s No. 1 running back, saw his season end because of a broken ankle and ligament damage. Schneider said neither Graham nor Rawls will take part in Saturday’s practice, and that it’s possible both players will be placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list at the start of training camp. However, Schneider also said both players remain on track to be ready by the start of the regular season.
