SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders FC placed forward Nate Jaqua on injured reserve ahead of the team’s opener against Philadelphia.
Jaqua was put on the injured list Thursday morning, just hours before the Sounders kicked off the Major League Soccer season.
The team says Jaqua has a lower abdominal injury. He’s been limited in preseason training and only rejoined full training sessions in recent weeks.
Jaqua will be required to miss the first six games of the season and is eligible to return for the May 1 game against Columbus.
Jaqua, 29, is entering his ninth MLS season. He started 27 of his 28 games for Seattle last year, scoring nine goals.
