OceanTides: Jack Hartt, a retired Washington State Parks ranger who spent 14 years at Deception Pass State Park, will discuss what causes tides and currents and how they affect our lives at a free presentation set for 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Everett Public Library auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Outdoor Speaker Series: “Thirst: 2,600 Miles to Home,” a talk by Heather “Anish” Anderson, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 8, Marysville Opera House, 1225 Third St., Marysville. Intro to camping: A camping workshop for beginners is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Alderwood REI, 3000 184th St. SW, Suite 952, Lynnwood. REI experts will demonstrate camping know-how such as how to set up tents and select the best sleeping bag. No experience is necessary. Gear will be provided. Space is limited. Get wild: The Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks, hosts presentations the third Wednesday of the month. The next presentation, “Gardening for Native Bees,” is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Island County Multi-Purpose Center, 141 NE Camano Drive, Camano Island. Wildlife photographer: Paul Bannick, an award-winning author and photographer of “Owl: A Year in the Life of North American Owls” and “The Owl and the Woodpecker,”will offer a free presentation at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Everett Public Library auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave. in Everett. Climb a tree: Washington State Parks and AdventureTerra of Seattle teamed up to offer guided, educational tree-climbing adventures to visitors at Deception Pass State Park, Hoypus Point area, 41020 U.S. 20, Oak Harbor.
