Mountlake Terrace shuts out Jackson 3-0

MILL CREEK – The Jackson High School softball team had a rough outing Monday, but it definitely worked out well for Mountlake Terrace.

The Hawks capitalized on five Jackson errors to win the Western Conference South Division contest 3-0.

Mountlake Terrace junior Jamie Foote hit a home run in the fourth inning, the only run earned run of the game.

Four off Jackson’s five errors came on throws and that, according to Jackson head coach Mike Moran, made the difference.

“Pitching was very good for both sides,” Moran said. “Take out some of the errors and it’s just the one home run that was the difference.”

Lindsay Woodhouse (7-2) recorded the complete-game victory, striking out seven. Her counterpart, Jackson’s Rachel Koenig-Eng, struck out nine, also in seven innings.

The victory puts Mountlake Terrace (6-2, 8-2) in a second-place tie with Jackson (6-2, 7-3) in the Wesco South. They both trail undefeated Kamiak (7-0, 9-0).

Everett 5, Edmonds-Woodway 2 (9 innings): Edmonds-Woodway freshman Claire Welly hit a two-run single to left-center field to supply the winning runs in the top of the ninth inning of the Wesco South contest.

Lynnwood 5, Mariner 1: Natalie Harrison hit a two-run double during Lynnwood’s three-run sixth inning to help lead the Royals to their first Wesco South victory. Karen Hansen was 2-for-2 with one RBI for the Lynnwood, which got a complete-game performance from winning pitcher Brittany Roden (four strikeouts, no walks). Krystal McMullen drove in Mariner’s only run.

Kamiak 9, Meadowdale 1: Kamiak’s Krista Colburn and Kate Defenbach were both 3-for-3 to lead the undefeated Knights of the Wesco South. Meadowdale’s Krystal Craig hit a triple to knock in Meadowdale’s lone run of the game.

Shorecrest 3, Shorewood 2 (11 innings): Shorecrest won the 11-inning marathon on a Shorewood throwing error in the Wesco South contest. Erica Benson of Shorecrest hit a two-run double in the second, and Shorewood’s Ty Matthews hit a two-run single to tie the score in the seventh and force extra innings.

Mount Vernon 2, Anacortes 0: Mount Vernon’s Mandy Hughes walked twice and hit a triple to lead the Bulldogs to the non-conference victory. Starting pitcher Meagan Gordon threw seven innings, allowing just two hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts.

Monroe 8, Oak Harbor 2: Adrienne Heffner struck out seven batters and teammate Mollie Nelson had three singles and three RBI to lead Monroe in the Wesco North game.
