All-State Band and Choir: These students were accepted into the 2005 All-State West Band and Choir and will participate in the Washington Music Educators Association’s Junior All-State West Concert in Olympia on Oct. 15. The band and orchestra concert begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. The vocal concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at the North Thurston High School Performing Arts Center. Students sent in audition tapes. Those named to All-State, along with their school and position, include:
Edmonds: Christian Haberman, viola; Michelle Nelson, cello; and Kristiana Waxham, violin 2 – all from College Place Middle School orchestra. Abbie Gustafson, alto; and Jonathan Lewis, bass – both from Edmonds Homeschool Resource Center mixed choir.
Everett: Joshua Lucas, tenor; Nino Souvannavong, tenor; Daegan Acevedo, bass; Claire Murphy, soprano; and Paige Anstett, soprano – all from Evergreen Middle School mixed choir. Jacobe Sell, clarinet; Derek Skinnell, trumpet; and Andrew Jamieson, clarinet – all from Evergreen Middle School band.
Granite Falls: Melissa Bjornson, alto, Granite Falls Middle School mixed choir.
Monroe: Kyle Thannisch, trombone, Hidden River Middle School band.

Dean’s List: Cadet Axel Wolff, Arlington, is on the Dean’s List at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
Anonymous donor: Immaculate Conception-Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Everett is the recipient of 28 desktop computers and 26 laptops – valued at more than $35,000 – from an anonymous donor. Students will be using the new computer lab for various class lessons. Junior high teachers will be able to sign up for time periods when each of their students can use a laptop to do research and create files. The school also opened a new science lab as a result of a school auction last spring.
Cascadia faculty: New faculty members at Cascadia Community College in Bothell include: Carrie Doan, political science; Adrienne Lugg, basic skills; Tori Saneda, anthropology; and Gene Taylor, history.
Doctoral degree: Darren Nicholson, a 1987 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, earned a doctorate in business administration at Washington State University in Pullman.
Northshore foundation donates: The Northshore Public Education Foundation donated $124,000 to Northshore schools this year. Most of the money was used for interactive science kits and safety equipment as part of a pilot project. Funds were raised through a phone-calling drive and special luncheon.
Northshore night: Northshore Christian Academy’s Curriculum Night, featuring dinner, a book fair and dedication of its new lunchroom, classroom, playground and sports court, begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at 5700 23rd Drive W. in Everett.
