Trade magazine Airline Fleet &Network Management takes a look http://www.aviationindustrygroup.com/downloads/franklyit%27sallaboutt-1093-1102.pdf at what goes into the fleet-purchase decisions of major low-cost carriers and determines — no doubt much to the chagrin of Boeing and Airbus marketing types — that it doesn’t always have much to do with the quality of 737s vs. A320s.
Key Quote, from David Stewart, principal at AeroStrategy: “Operationally they are both good, proven aircraft so a lot will come down to unique factors at the airline and the overall deal that is offered. Frankly, it’s all about timing: for instance, if a manufacturer is desperate to do something
like break into a new market or outsell their competitor for the year.”
The article, btw, was shamelessly poached from Scott Hamilton’s blog at www.leeham.net.
