Cascade clinches playoff berth

ARLINGTON – Cascade clinched a 4A quad-district playoff berth with a 35-14 win over Wesco North opponent Arlington Friday night at Arlington High School.

The score was tied at halftime after the Eagles marched 75 yards to score on a Trevor Milles 4-yard touchdown pass to Jerad Barber with 26 seconds remaining in the half.

But the Bruins began the second half with 21 unanswered points.

“Cascade proved to be pretty big up front and pulled it (the game) out in the end,” Arlington coach Tim Tramp said.

Cascade turned two fourth-quarter interceptions into 14 points.

Lorne Bridgford had 31 rushing attempts for 161 yards and two touchdowns to go with his one receiving TD for the Bruins. Teammate Dirk Snel was a perfect 8-for-8 passing for 106 yards and one TD. Nick Morrison added two rushing TDs.

The Eagles Milles was 17-for-25 for a 183 yards with two touchdowns. Abe Bourasaw had four catches for 41 yards and Derek Johnson had five catches for 36 yards for Arlington.

The Bruins host Oak Harbor at Everett Memorial Stadium Friday with the Wesco North’s number one playoff seed at stake.

Oak Harbor 35, Monroe 27: At Oak Harbor, Tony Thulin finished with more than 200 all-purpose yards as the Wildcats held on to defeat the Bearcats in Wesco North action. Thulin finished with two catches for 116 yards and also returned the opening kickoff of the second half 88 yards for a score. Quarterback Marshall Lobbestael finished 13 of 21 for 290 yards with three TDs. Monroe’s Brian McPeters finished with 31 carries for 248 yards and three TDs.

Stanwood 28, Everett 20: At Everett, Vann Vetch carried 30 times for 208 yards and a touchdown to help Stanwood keep its playoff chances alive with a win in its final Wesco North game. The Spartans, who play a non-league game next week against Lynnwood, ran for 385 yards and passed for 55 for 430 yards of total offense. Everett’s Andrew Stiger carried 15 times for 104 yards and two TDs. The loss by Everett enabled Meadowdale to clinch a 3A quad-district playoff berth.

Jackson 36, Shorewood 28: At Everett, Jackson senior quarterback Jake Gelakoska left with two minutes to go in the first quarter with a foot injury, but not before completing four of six passes for 118 yards and two TDs. Both of Gelakoska’s TD passes were to Colby Robinson, who finished with the two catches for 106 yards. Shorewood quarterback Tysen Allumbaugh provided the biggest highlight for his squad, keeping an option and busting down field for a 65-yard touchdown run.
