EVERETT – The Lake Stevens and Stanwood girls soccer teams are Western Conference North co-champions, but must still settle who is No.1 on the field.

Lake Stevens defeated Everett 1-0 Thursday night at Lincoln Field to force a tiebreaker for a 4A state playoff berth at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lake Stevens High School. The tiebreaker will consist of two, 20-minute halves. It still tied, two five-minute, sudden-death overtime periods follow. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then a shootout will. Lake Stevens and Stanwood split their regular season games.

“It is never fun facing a team three times, but there is not a team we can’t beat. We respect them as a team because they showed they could beat us,” Lake Stevens coach Dianne Mattingly said of facing Stanwood. “It is going to be two teams that want to prove to each other what they can do.”

Alyssa Licht headed in the game-winning goal in the 12th minute off a Raelynne Lee corner kick. It was Lee’s fifth assist on a corner kick this season.

The Vikings dynamic midfield duo of Taylor Cochran and Lee provided all the leadership Lake Stevens needed in willing the Vikings to the victory.

“She (Cochran) was all over the field, she was making it happen and she was definitely played well,” Everett coach Kosta Pitharoulis said. “Lee is not a flashy player, but does her job quietly and is pretty consistent.”

Everett hosts Ferndale at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Field in a first-round 3A District 1 playoff game. It will be Everett’s first time hosting a district game in 13 years.
