The Boeing Co. added another 36 orders to its backlog this week, including an order from Southwest Airlines for 25 737s.
The low-cost carrier recently has struggled as fuel prices remain high. Earlier this week, Southwest said it was offering to buy out roughly a quarter of its workforce to lower its operating costs. The airline noted yesterday that it intends to add five to 10 Boeing jets each year into its fleet from 2009 through 2011, according to a Bloomberg report.
Boeing also added several unidentified orders for six 787s, two 777s and three 737s. It brings Boeing’s order total for the year to 616.
