Rookie camp day three

A few quick notes from the morning session:
– Ryan White has decided not to attend camp after all. The talented forward from Colorado was initially scheduled to arrive Friday night and participate in the final two days in an effort to make the team. However, he pulled out and will play midget AAA in Colorado instead this season. Everett general manager Doug Soetaert said he was fine with that decision.
– Brett Chartier recovered enough from his bruised thigh to participate in practice, but he’s still questionable for tomorrow’s Green-White game. For Chartier, one of Everett’s top 1991-born prospects, being ready for main camp probably takes priority over the rookie game.
– Ondrej Fiala was at Comcast Arena this morning. He flew in from the Czech Republic yesterday — on the same flight as Lukas Vartovnik. He was in good spirits and said his knee is feeling a lot better than it did during last season.
– Team Blue defeated Team Red 6-2 in the morning scrimmage. Gabriel Minville, Kellan Tochkin, Markus McCrae, Brody Eisbrenner, Paul Grenier and Kevin Wiens scored for Blue. Devan McLean and Kevin Spotts tallied for Red. Blue goalie Kent Simpson again went unscored upon and has given up just one goal in three periods, but he hasn’t been overly tested because his team’s too good. There was also the camp’s second fight as Colin Hoffman went again, this time with Brett Kolins in what appeared to be a draw.
Anyway, I’m off to work on a feature about Chartier for tomorrow’s paper. See you at tomorrow’s Green-White game.
