Everett: Novelist to read from ‘Lottery’

Novelist Patricia Wood is scheduled to read from her new book, “Lottery,” at 2 p.m. Sunday at Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

The novel tells the story of Perry Crandall of Everett, a man with a low intelligence who was abandoned by his parents and raised by his grandmother.

Perry’s life changes forever when his beloved grandmother dies and he wins $12 million from the state lottery. Wood’s own father won the Washington State Lottery in 1993, so she knows how instant riches can change they way people are treated.

Book critics have said that readers who liked “Forrest Gump” will enjoy “Lottery.”

Lake Stevens: Day for Kids on Saturday

The annual Lake Stevens Boys &Girls Club Day for Kids is scheduled noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the club, 1609 E. Lakeshore Drive.

Food, music, contests, face painting and many more activities are planned.

Several organizations from the city, county and region are sponsoring the event.

Mukilteo: Learn about wills, trusts

Learn how to plan ahead financially for your death at a workshop offered this month at the Mukilteo Library.

The workshop, called Plan Ahead Before You’re Dead, is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 22 at the library at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd.

Presented by BECU credit union, participants at the workshop can learn about the use of a will and trusts. Participants can also learn the importance of updating estate documents, reviewing tax laws and the proper titling of assets.

Snohomish: Open house for school set

An open house for the new AIM High School is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in its new building at 525 13th St.

The alternative high school’s new home will be known as the Parkway Campus. It is in the former Parkway Nursing Home.

The campus is six times the size of the old space. It includes 36,315 square feet of building space on 3.25 acres.

The Snohomish School District bought the building for $1.79 million, using money in fees charged to developers to offset the impact of new housing.
