50 years ago (1957)
Neil Byers, special representative of the supreme lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose handed Police Chief Herman Broker of Marysville one of the placards being used in connection with the safety crusade sponsored by the lodge.
A group of young people were out on Lake Stevens canvassing the shore, selling tickets to the George Quinn Get Well Dance. Quinn was an aerialist hospitalized in Seattle because of a fall from his boat-pulled kite. Girls carrying posters were Marilyn Hopkins, Judy McCleary, MariĀlou Barclay and Blanch Hopkins. Casey GranĀstrom was driving the boat.
25 years ago (1982)
H&L Sports saluted two high school gridders. In his last game Mike Rucker, a two-way starter for Mariner, had an 87-yard touchdown return, four pass receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown, and a 50-yard punt return for the Marauders. Mike O’Donnell, senior safety for the Everett Seagulls, led his team in tackles with 19 in the Gulls’ win over Bremerton.
Rear Adm. George Lotzenbiser closed out a 40-year Naval Reserve career when he relinquished command of the Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region 22 at Sand Point in Seattle. He would make his retirement home on Whidbey Island.
