District receives honor for sustainable buildings
The Edmonds School District has received a 2007 BetterBricks Award for its steps to build sustainable, high-performance designed buildings, including the new Lynnwood High School now under construction.
Edward Peters, director of capital projects, accepted the award Oct. 25 for his leadership on the projects. The new Lynnwood High School is a 215,000-square-foot building that will use passive ventilation, automatic dimming, condensing boilers and other features that are predicted to outperform the Washington State Energy Code by 50 percent.
BetterBricks is the commercial initiative of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, which is supported by local electric utilities, and advocates for improvements to energy-related practices.
Western Washington University names summer honor roll
The following local students were named to Western Washington University’s summer honor roll. To qualify for the honor roll, students must complete at least 14 graded credit hours during a quarter and be in the top 10 percent of their class.

EdCC communications director wins accolades
Sharron Sellers, Edmonds Community College’s director of communications and marketing, was named communicator of the year at the National Council of Marketing and Public Relations District VII conference in October for her leadership in public relations at the college, state and Northwest region that includes nine states and provinces.
The college has received regional and national awards for its Web site, publications and marketing campaigns including two recent NCMPR awards for outstanding publications.
The college’s “What next?” postcard series mailed to high school students and its online brochure, www.edcc.edu/MyBrochure, earned gold honors.
Sellers has fostered marketing partnerships with Community Transit, the City of Lynnwood, Edmonds School District and Central Washington University-Lynnwood.
She’s served as president of the Public Information Commission of the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges and worked on the statewide awareness campaign for community colleges “Creating Opportunities”.
Before coming to Edmonds Community College in 1998, Sellers was a lobbyist for the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association.
A community college alumna, she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Washington State University and her master’s in public administration at the University of Washington.
