Everett: Christmas boat parade set

Everett Yacht Club’s annual Christmas Lighted Boat Parade is scheduled to brighten the city’s waterfront Dec. 7 and 8. Owners of boats of all sizes and types are welcome to participate.

Decorations may be simple or grandiose. Prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded to the best contestants.

The “shakedown” parade begins at 5:45 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Snohomish River near the 10th Street Boat Ramp, moves down river past the Yacht Club and Anthony’s HomePort. The official parade takes place Dec. 8 starting at 4:45 p.m.

The Yacht Club will open its doors and Christmas Party to participants before and after each parade.

Diversity board members appointed

The Everett City Council recently affirmed Mayor Ray Stephanson’s appointment of 15 men and women to serve two- and four-year terms on the city’s newly formed diversity board. The panel, which will begin meeting next year, was designed to advise the mayor and the council on making city government more accessible to people from all walks of life.

Four-year term appointments: Zebedee Cobbs, Clay Hernandez, Victor Harris, Karyn Zigler, Jackie Minchew, Therese Quinn and Winnie Corral.

Two year term appointments: Josefina Atienza, Wanda Smith-Jeter, Andrea Wells-Edwards, Christina Castorena, Van Dinh-Kuno, Alfred Beauchamp, Susan Dedrick and Tanya Motta.

Mukilteo: Work to begin at park

A groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of renovations at Lighthouse Park in Old Town Mukilteo is planned for 2 p.m. Friday.

The first phase of renovations at the 13-acre park will encompass four acres and include the construction of picnic shelters, a children’s play area, displays and viewpoints, pathways, restrooms and a new parking area, as well as landscaping.

The city wants to transform the former state park into a more urban park to fit with other projects planned for the waterfront in Old Town.

Lake Stevens: Internet safety is meeting topic

The Lake Stevens School District and Lake Stevens Family Center are planning a presentation for Nov. 28 on Internet safety and the digital landscape, titled “R U able to read txt?”

The event is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE.

Video games and text messaging are among the topics slated for discussion. Refreshments are planned.

The event is part of a series of joint presentations by the family center and school district on important issues, titled “Cup of Sugar: Neighbors sharing their resources.”

Snohomish: Local historian to speak

David Dilgard, a local historian at the Everett Public Library, plans to speak at the general meeting of the Snohomish Historical Society at 7 p.m. at Nov. 14 at Waltz Building, 116 Ave. B.

Dilgard is set to talk about whether the Blackman Brothers existed in Snohomish, with a photo slide show. The group also plans to hold its annual election of board officers and trustees at the meeting.
