Everett: Builder chosen for skate park

A contractor was picked this week to build a skateboarding park in one of Everett’s poorest neighborhoods.

Clements Bros. Construction of Bonney Lake was awarded $427,453 by the Everett City Council on Wednesday to build a street-style skate park at Wiggums Hollow Park, 2808 10th St.

Clements Bros. was the lowest of three bidders.

The project calls for a lighted, fenced-in skating area; a security camera; a small parking lot; a drinking fountain; sidewalks; benches; and a large stainless-steel skateboard sculpture.

The city’s first skate park, near Walter E. Hall Golf Course on W Casino Road in south Everett, was approved in 1998.

Nielsen to lead council in 2008

City Councilman Drew Nielsen was appointed by his colleagues Wednesday to lead the Everett City Council as president in 2008.

He holds a number of council committee assignments and is chairman of the facilities committee. He also serves on the Snohomish Health District’s board of health. Four of seven council members hold full-time jobs in addition to their council duties.

The position pays $31,000 a year plus medical benefits.
