Look for The Herald’s weekly Food section in Sunday’s paper this week to give you a head start on Thanksgiving preparations.
Along with delectable recipes, the section will provide advice on getting the bird on the table quickly, ideas for making side dishes from scratch or from the shelf, and tips for honest-to-goodness healthy gravy.
Food bank plans open house
The Good Cheer Food Bank has moved to 2812 Grimm Road near Bayview Center on south Whidbey Island. An open house is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The food bank is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Author coming to Mukilteo library
An author and illustrator is expected to meet with readers at 11 a.m. today at the Mukilteo Library, 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.
Erik Brooks wrote “Slow Days, Fast Friends” and “Polar Polka.”
View diamond-platinum jacket
Visitors can see a jacket decorated with diamonds and platinum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Wyatt’s Diamond Jewelers, 14751 N. Kelsey St., Monroe.
The evening jacket was worn twice this year during public appearances by Paris Hilton’s mother, Kathy Hilton. It has 2,000 diamonds totaling 300 carats and two pounds of platinum.
Harvest festival celebration today
The tradition of harvest festivals from around the world will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W. in Mountlake Terrace.
People of all ages are welcome.
Volunteers are planning to share stories and traditions from various cultures that celebrate the harvest season.
