Everett: City offers free dump coupons

The city is offering residents in several neighborhoods an incentive to clean up their junk and yard waste.

People who live in most of the city’s neighborhoods can pick up vouchers good for dropping off up to 360 pounds of trash at the Airport Road Recycling and Transfer Station, 10700 Minuteman Drive.

The effort to tidy up neighborhoods is a joint project of the city and Snohomish County Solid Waste Division. Each participating neighborhood association can receive as many as 155 coupons in 2007 and 2008.

Children’s reading room to get a boost

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation gave Friends of the Everett Public Library a $3,000 grant to help create a family reading area in the Children’s Room at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

The gift will be used to renovate the Children’s Room to make it feel more like a living room, including adding new furniture, lighting and shelving.

Friends of the Everett Public Library began raising money for the Family Reading Area in October by selling signed copies of a print depicting the library by Everett artist Peter Jensen. Copies of the print are available at the Main Library. All proceeds will go toward creating the family reading area.

Research shows children who are read to from an early age have more success learning to read.
