EVERETT – With more than five weeks to go in 2007, the Boeing Co. has bested its own commercial jet sales record.
Boeing has topped 1,000 orders for the third year in a row, posting 1,047 net orders as of Nov. 20. That’s three more requests than Boeing had at the end of 2006 when it made company history with 1,044 net orders.
Over the past week, the Chicago-based jet maker added 72 new orders, all of which were unidentified excepted for American Airlines order for one 737. Boeing booked 15 orders for 777s and 56 orders for 737s for unnamed customers last week.
With 1,057 gross orders so far in 2007, Boeing likely trails rival Airbus in jet orders this year. Boeing beat Airbus in total orders in 2006 for the first time in five years.
Airbus updates its sales totals monthly. At the end of October, it listed 1,021 orders. However, the European company picked up hundreds of orders and commitments at the Dubai Air Show held earlier this month.
