Shop for National Geographic goods

Fourteen tractor trailers have unloaded almost every item that National Geographic offers for a sale scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Washington State Convention Center Hall 4E, 800 Convention Place, Seattle.

Many of the items seen in National Geographic gift catalogs will be available as well as 300 book titles. Also find globes, toys, clothing, travel gear, jewelry, and home and garden accessories.

New to the sale this year are images by National Geographic photographers.

Author to discuss writing

Author David Patneaude is scheduled to talk with kids about the writing process at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave.

He has written nine children’s books, including “Haunting at Home Plate” and “Last Man’s Reward.”

Volunteers needed for historical board

Volunteers are needed to serve on the Edmonds Historic Preservation Committee, a board that advocates and oversees historic preservation practices in the city.

Applicants must live in the city and be interested in historic preservation. The commission maintains a register of historic places in the city and reviews changes to those properties.

The commission also advises the City Council on issues related to preserving historic places.

To apply, pick up an application at the reception desk at City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N., or call 425-771-0247. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Bell ringers help social programs

Snohomish County Salvation Army in downtown Everett is looking for civic groups, clubs, Scout troops, sports teams or other organizations to help ring bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.

Interested groups are asked to donate a few hours each Saturday through Dec. 22 to raise money for the Salvation Army’s annual social service programs.
