On Wednesday, there will be arts and crafts for children from 3 to 6 p.m., with Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving at noon and greeting children through 8 p.m.

Mountlake Terrace library closes

The Mountlake Terrace Library will close Thursday through Dec. 14 for remodeling. The work will include new carpet, electrical changes and a new customer service and checkout area.

The library, 23300 58th Ave. W., is scheduled to reopen Dec. 15.

Customers are asked to return checked out materials to other Sno-Isle libraries during the closure. The nearby Lynnwood Library is at 19200 44th Ave. W.

Coast Guard checks boats

The U.S. Coast Guard will conduct vessel safety spot checks and voluntary dock-side exams in Northwest ports through Wednesday, just before the opening of the Oregon and Washington State Dungeness crab fishery.

Coast Guard examiners will check lifesaving equipment and pot loading practices.

Similar at-the-dock checks in previous years found that a lot of safety equipment had been installed improperly.

Serious discrepancies, such as overloading or missing lifesaving equipment, may result in a vessel being restricted from operating until the deficiencies are corrected.

Hear music from 17th century

Listen to 17th century music at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St.

The free program is called “The Plains of Love: 17th Century Songs and Arias.”

Performers with The Continuo Ensemble, a group sponsored by the Early Music Guild of Seattle, are planning to sing and play harps and lutes.
