EVERETT — Freshman Brett Kingma scored 32 points, and Josh Gotee stole the ball with 4.9 seconds left to preserve Jackson’s 68-66 non-conference boys basketball victory over Cascade on Wednesday night.
“The secret’s out, the kid can shoot,” Jackson head coach Steve Johnson said of Kingma. “His teamates did a great job of setting screens, and he used them.”
Kingma finished with four 3-pointers.
Jackson, which did not return any starters from last year’s team, fell behind early and trailed by nine after the first quarter.
“They (Cascade) came out hot and hit some threes,” Johnson said. “It’s tough when you’re a young team on the road.”
Ryan Todd finished with six assists for Jackson. Cascade’s Matt Reading hit three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points.
Kingma went 10-12 from the line, going 6-8 in the fourth quarter to help preserve Jackson’s lead.
