Neighborhood lights up for food bank
The Fir Grove neighborhood in south Everett has a 20-year tradition of decorating with Christmas lights, handing out candy canes and collecting food for Volunteers of America’s Everett Food Bank. The effort usually raises thousands of dollars and brings in tons of food, a Volunteers of America spokesman said.
The neighborhood is just off 19th Avenue SE on 100th Street SE near the Silver Lake Costco store. Through December, visitors can enjoy the Christmas lights in the neighborhood, where more than 50 homes will be brightly lit. Donations for the Everett Food Bank can be made at the neighborhood’s welcome tent.
Ride the bus free on Sundays
Everett Transit celebrates the holiday season by offering Fare Free Sundays through December. Take the bus to go shopping, see a movie, visit friends and family, or just go for a ride.
Oak Harbor Library to close for work
The Oak Harbor Library will be closed for re-carpeting from Sunday through Dec. 23. The book drop return slot will also be closed during this period. Library materials may be returned when the library reopens, or to another Sno-Isle Library.
The library was recently repainted by Windermere volunteers and Oak Harbor staff. The carpeting project will complete rejuvenation of the 15-year-old building.
Certified renter class offered
The Dispute Resolution Center of Snohomish County offers free renter certification training at 1 p.m. Tuesday at 2801 Lombard Ave., Everett.
If you have a problematic rental or credit history, the center will attempt to help you through training and one-on-one assistance in identifying what is preventing you from obtaining housing. Then you’ll work to create a plan to address the past and develop a positive rental history.
