Seattle group wins MTV contest

The Myriad, a Seattle rock band, just won an MTV battle of the bands-styled contest , so you know they’re good.

Ah, but seriously, I’m just busting their chops. These guys aren’t that bad. The quintet write big-sounding songs that, at least according to their press materials, draw comparisons to U2 and the Who.

(They don’t actually sound like those groups. They sound like Muse, via America. Come on: Just listen to the clip from “A Clean Shot” on MySpace and tell me you don’t agree.)

The group won the “MTV2 Dew Circuit Breakout,” and so will get a clip in

rotation on MTV and MTV2.

The group’s digital EP, “Prelude to Arrows,” is available on iTunes. Their new

album, “With Arrows, With Poise,” is set for release in the spring.

The Myriad — or at least a tape-recorded version of the group — can be reached by calling 206-701-9945. Give it a whirl.
