Download: Single from Chris Walla of Death Cab fame

Chris Walla, the man of many indie rock hats, is set to release his long-anticipated solo album, “Field Manual,” on Jan. 29.

Here for download, courtesy of the fine folks at Barsuk Records, is the first single, “Sing Again,” a clean and elegant little piece of pop. (Click on the mp3 in the “Additional Items” to the right of this post.)

Walla, who grew up in Bothell, has earned acclaim for his work as guitarist and producer Death Cab for Cutie (who also have an album due this year that, based on the instrumental blip posted to their Web site, sounds like it might be gooooood).

Walla also has produced some of the best work by indie pop darlings including the Decemberists, Nada Surf and Tegan and Sara.
