Jackson plays Kentwood in King Holiday Hoopfest

Some people have today off, but not the surging Jackson Timberwolves.

The Jackson girls basketball team, which has won 11 consecutive games including a key division triumph last week at Meadowdale, will be in Seattle today for the jam-packed King Holiday Hoopfest. The all-day event features seven non-conference boys and girls contests at the University of Washington’s Edmundson Pavilion.

Jackson (12-1 overall) plays Kentwood (12-3) at 12:30 p.m. It’s a matchup of high-powered Class 4A teams who both placed in the top eight at last season’s 4A state tournament. Kentwood has won five consecutive games since suffering back-to-back losses during Christmas break.

Besides providing another great test for Jackson as the regular season winds down, today’s game will give a glimpse of the future. Timberwolves guard Kristi Kingma is a Washington Huskies recruit, so she’ll be playing on her future home court. We’ll see if she can come up with another huge game like she had Wednesday against Meadowdale (12-2), when she scored a career-high 32 points and tallied 10 assists in a 67-58 victory.
