Famous Chicken will fly into town

The Famous Chicken from San Diego plans to make a stop at the Everett AquaSox game at 7:05 p.m. July 28 at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The Chicken will join in the 25th anniversary celebration of minor league baseball in Everett.

Support firefighters on the stair climb

Anyone may sponsor Everett’s firefighters in this year’s Firefighter Stair Climb on Sunday in Seattle. The event benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

More than 1,300 firefighters from more than 200 fire departments will participate by climbing 69 floors in full firefighting gear. In 2007, a record $365,000 was raised for blood cancer research and patient services.

Learn how to fight online scams, fraud

Learn about the dangers of posting personal information on Web sites such as MySpace.com during a class planned by the Island County Sheriff’s Office at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Camano Community and Senior Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.

Detective Ed Wallace plans to show how easy it is to find information on people, even from seemingly harmless details.

Reception for Betsy Shields

After 28 years with Everett Community College, Betsy Shields, assistant director of the Student Employment Referral Center, is retiring.

Region’s tribes visit Marysville

American Indian and Canadian First Nations tribal members from around the region will gather at the Tulalip Indian Reservation through Friday at the Tulalip Tribes administration building on Totem Beach Road.

Tribal leaders will discuss how to work together to promote environmental policies and how to unify their people, who are all members of tribes from the Coast Salish region.
