Bothell

Memorial to remember UW Bothell director

A memorial service to honor Jane Decker, a founding faculty member at the University of Washington’s Bothell campus, is planned for March.

The service 10 a.m. March 14 at the North Creek Events Center at UW Bothell.

Decker was the branch’s founding program director for liberal studies. She also served as interim program director for nursing, associate dean for academic planning, interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, professor of interdisciplinary arts and sciences, and professor in the Master of Arts in Policy Studies program.

She helped create curriculum for the campus when it opened its doors in 1990.

Edmonds

Council to interview commission candidates

The public is invited to watch as the Edmonds City Council interviews for candidates for openings on the city’s Historic Preservation Commission and Sister City Commission.

The interviews start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Public Safety Complex at 250 Fifth Ave. N.

Interviews are expected to last about 30 minutes. The City Council has a regular business meeting scheduled after the interviews.

Lake Stevens

City to examine land use in Cavalero Hill area

The Lake Stevens City Council plans to discuss the process for its south master plan tonight.

The meeting is 7 p.m. at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Services Center, 12309 22nd Street NE.

The south master plan is a study of possible land uses in the Cavalero Hill area, bordered by Highway 9 to the east, by U.S. 2 to the west and south, and roughly by 24th Street NE to the north.

The area is not in the city of Lake Stevens, but the city has asked Snohomish County to include the area in its potential growth area. Part of the area is being studied by Snohomish as well.

The last of three public workshops on the issue is 7 to 9 p.m. March 12 at Cavelero Mid High School, 8220 24th St. SE.

Marysville

Whiskey Ridge plat up for approval

The Marysville City Council plans to consider approval of the final plat of The Glen at Whiskey Ridge tonight.

The meeting is 7 p.m. at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

The plat would create 26 lots for single-family homes on about 10.5 acres east of 83rd Ave NE, north of Highway 528 and west of Highway 9.

Mill Creek

Attend library group planning meeting

The public is invited to the March meeting of the Friends of the Mill Creek Library.

The meeting is 9 a.m. March 12 at the Mill Creek Library at 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway.

Friends of the Mill Creek Library is a volunteer group that plans events and fundraisers for the library. The group organizes the library’s twice-yearly book sale, applies for grants to promote literacy, gives monthly book reviews and supports children’s programs.

Monroe

City gets $75,000 grant to improve drainage

The city recently received a $75,000 state grant for drainage improvements to the Sky River Park athletic fields.

The project is expected to cost about $300,000, and construction is set to start in July. All fields will be closed during the construction and will remain closed through the fall.

Mountlake Terrace

City Council members re-elected to association

Two members of the Mountlake Terrace City Council were recently re-elected to their posts as officers for the Association of Snohomish County Cities and Towns.

Mayor Pro Tem Laura Sonmore will serve the year as the organization’s vice president and Councilwoman Michelle Robles as secretary-treasurer.

Formed in 1997, the association allows elected officials from around the county to discuss issues affecting their cities. The group meets about 10 times each year.

“It is important for all of the Snohomish County city councils to join together on issues of regional concern,” Sonmore said.

Mukilteo

City Council to discuss waterfront development

An update on several projects on the waterfront of Old Town is planned for today’s Mukilteo City Council meeting.

The meeting is 7 p.m. at City Hall at 4480 Chennault Beach Road.

Projects on the waterfront include efforts to build a new ferry terminal, Sound Transit’s new rail platform and a new beachfront park.

Snohomish

City seeks applications for committee

Applicants are being sought to fill a vacancy on the city’s economic development committee. The applications must be received by 4 p.m. on March 12 at City Hall, 116 Union Ave.

Garnet Hizzey recently resigned from the committee, creating the vacancy. Hizzey served on the committee for more than six years.

Committee members serve two-year terms. The period of the term will be from April 1, 2008, to March 31, 2010.
