199th St. NE goes to one lane for roadwork

Roadwork on 199th Street NE will reduce the street to one lane between 63rd Avenue NE and 60th Avenue NE from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Friday. The closure is the result of a sewer main extension.

Emergency response training offered

A seven-week series of classes will soon begin for Arlington-area residents who wish to be members of the Community Emergency Response Team.

The first class will offer an overview of the group’s training.

Classes will begin this Friday and be held each Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at 10701 Shoultes Rd. in Marysville. Participants will be required to attend all seven classes to earn CERT certification.

Hearing set on long plat moratorium

A public hearing on the acceptance of residential long plat applications is planned at a meeting of the Granite Falls City Council tonight. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave.

Marysville

Council opposes Air Force tanker decision

The Marysville City Council on Monday approved a resolution calling for the Air Force to reverse its recent decision to award a $40 billion contract to build a refueling tanker to Northrop Grumman-European Aeronautic Defense and Space Team.

The resolution listed several reasons for calling for reversal of the decision, including that “an American tanker should be built by an American company with American workers.”

Tulalip

General Council meeting is Saturday

The Tulalip Tribes plans for its bi-annual General Council meeting to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and continue until all issues at hand have been discussed. The meeting will be held in the tribal gym at 6700 Totem Beach Road in Tulalip.

Tribal members will vote to fill three positions for three-year terms on the seven-member Board of Directors, elect a board chairman or chairwoman and vote on and bring general items in for public discussion. The meeting is open only to tribal members.

Heat pumps available

Low-income tribal members who are buying homes through the tribal government are eligible for free home heating pumps, which will be installed at no charge to the applicants.

Seniors, the disabled, people with medical conditions and families with young children will be given priority.

The applicant’s income must be at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty standard, and must agree to provide copies of heating bills to tribal officials for the first 12 months after the pump is installed.
