50 years ago (1958)
Everett Junior College’s spring comedy, “Three Men On A Horse,” was about to open. John Huston played a meek writer who got an ear-pulling from his wife, Marcia Whitchurch, and a browbeating from a nefarious friend, Verna Case.
In commemoration of Arbor Day, members of West Ridge Junior Garden Club planted a rhododendron at View Ridge School. In the group were Kip Bryant, Barbara Baumann, Linda Johnson, Barbara Hedlund, Pamela Grossman, Elaine Wintch, Kathy Wintch, Chris Cramer, Joe Anne Baumann and Len Scougale.
25 years ago (1983)
The fire that raged through a half-million tires at the old Everett landfill was still smoldering. The remaining embers posed no danger and were being monitored by the Everett Police Department, according to Everett Fire Department battalion chief Bob Schaller, who added that it would probably burn itself out in the next couple days.
As part of a continuing effort to reach the public, the Snohomish County Camano board of Realtors, a part of the National Association of Realtors, was sponsoring its annual essay contest for third-graders in Snohomish and Island County schools. This year’s topic was “What My Home Means to Me.”
