50 years ago (1958)

Plans for the observance of Mental Health Week would be shared at a public meeting at South Junior High School auditorium, sponsored by Snohomish County Mental Health Association and the Life Underwriters. Planning the meeting were association officers Wayne Culver, president; W.B. Gorbutt, vice president; and Mary Landon, secretary.

One-time pin-setter Fred Bates, who returned to bowling after a long absence just two years ago, electrified onlookers at Broadway Lanes with a brilliant 299 game. Bates piled 11 strikes straight into the pocket, but on his 12th shot left the six pin standing.

25 years ago (1983)

Margo Olson, mother of identical twin girls, was chosen mother of the year for 1983 by the Halls Lake Mothers of Twins Club. Olson was an active member of the club, serving as treasurer and senior delegate and on numerous committees. She would be honored at the club’s convention in Everett.

Abner Wagner, 75, was developing his oil-painting skill over the past couple of years through Everett Parks and Recreation art classes. The Everett man was digging out memories of his active youth as a wheat and cattle rancher in Montana.
