50 years ago (1958)

Jim Temple, distance runner from Lake Stevens, was one of the Everett Junior College track and field performers who was expected to place high in the quadrangular meet in the University of Washington Stadium.

Snohomish High School seniors Ruth Wheeler and Ann Uran wound up in a first-place tie in the finals of the Northwest Music Educators’ Association music competition held at the University of Washington. The former was featured on the baritone horn, while the latter played both the piano and the violin.

25 years ago (1983)

Students at Lynndale Elementary School this week learned the “bear facts” about making teddy bears out of muslin and porcelain — and out of salt-dough. It was teddy-bear week at the school for first- and second-grade students of teachers Paula Taylor and Colleen Gidner.

Winning nutrition-poster contests in the Mukilteo School District were: first, Monica Brokaw, Olivia Park Elementary School; second, Russell Laymance, Fairmount Elementary School; and third, Derek Snider, Olivia Park Elementary. Olivia Park also received a stereo for having the first-place winner in the contest.
