Get help parenting a blended family

A discussion of parenting in a blended family is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday.

Organizer Jenifer Groves said parenting in a blended family is as common an occupation as parenting your own kids these days, but most folks are poorly prepared for the task, no matter whose kids they are.

“We don’t have all the answers but we’ll present some perspectives that might help both sides of a blended family understand their partner’s fears and frustrations,” she said.

The event is presented by Tim Cowan, a longtime member of Changes Parent Support Network, at Family Tree Apartments Community Room, 10110 19th Ave. SE, Everett.

USNS Bridge docks at Naval Station

That big ship that pulled into Naval Station Everett on Thursday afternoon is the USNS Bridge, a fast combat support ship that supplies warships and bases with fuel, ammunition, food and other supplies.

The Bridge normally is based in Bremerton, but it will be at the Everett naval station until sometime in the middle of May, undergoing some maintenance work, base spokesman Rick Huling said.

The ship is 754 feet long and has a beam of 107 feet. It is part of the U.S. Military Sealift Command. The normal crew consists of about 160 civilians and 28 military personnel.
