50 years ago (1958)

Terry Pancoast took the baton from teammate Larry Howard as the Everett High School track team went on to win the 880 relay race and the Snoho­mish County crown. Other good performances came from R.D. Miller in the 440 and Jerry Joyce in the 100-yard dash.

In keeping with family and school tradition, a member of the Schroedl family was valedictorian at Arlington High School again this year. Brother Gerald Schroedl held that honor in 1956 and brother Robert in 1951. They were the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schroedl of Shoultes Road.

25 years ago (1983)

Bill Vincent, scholarship chairman of the Everett Elks Lodge, invited the public to a meeting tonight to honor eight Snohomish County high school students who received Elks National Foundation Scholarships from the Everett Lodge and the association’s women’s organization, the Emblem Club.

Punky Searles of Snohomish High School had a good year as a freshman in sports as a football punter, basketball player and baseball left fielder. Now a senior, he had a great football season as all-conference punter and was a good-hitting first baseman for the Panthers.
