The home front: Patio table features a built-in fire pit

What: It’s been among the coldest springs on record since 1917. Will it also be the coldest summer? Hedge your bets with a fire-pit table. Made by Amazon.com’s private label, the Strathwood St. Thomas cast aluminum round table with fire pit is an attractive piece of patio furniture that lets family and friends catch some heat this June regardless of Mother Nature’s cruel intentions.
Advantages:Outside the fact that it looks awesome? Made from lightweight, rust-resistant cast aluminum, the table includes a copper fire bowl at its center. The bowl has a 22-inch diameter and 7-inch depth, leaving plenty of room for coals. The table itself is 42 inches across and 22 ½ inches high. Its open-scroll pattern prevents water from pooling, with rain instead dripping straight through. And, if chance dictates a hot summer, don’t worry; the all-weather design makes the table useful year-round.
Limitations:Price is a factor. The table is discounted to $329.99, before tax and shipping costs. While the attractive design is a plus, it also calls for something nicer than blue plastic chairs. Tack on about $450 or more for four seats matching the table’s design. Finally, a fire begs to be huddled around. A four-legged table like this won’t seat many more than four people, making fireside sing-alongs a bit awkward.
