Fireworks banned on CT buses

Community Transit will adjust its schedule for Independence Day on Friday. Local buses and Dial-a-Ride Transportation will operate on Sunday schedules.

There will be no commuter service to King County or to the Boeing Co. in Everett.

Community Transit also reminds passengers that fireworks of any kind are not allowed on the agency’s buses, park-and-ride lots or other property.

The ban includes “safe and sane” fireworks such as sparklers and snakes, said Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Doug Jeske, head of the agency’s Transit Police unit.

Island County tax assessments mailed

Property assessment notices for Island County went in the mail last week.

Last year, the notices were mailed on Aug. 31. The Island County Assessor’s Office has made significant strides in catching up on the property tax schedule this year, according to a notice released by the county Tuesday.

Most property owners should expect no change or a slight decrease in property values this year. The only property value increases this year were in high-demand areas, according to the assessor’s notice.
