MARYSVILLE — A 20-year-old Marysville man was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly drove his car at a friend’s father, carrying the older man on the hood of his car for 30 feet before the victim was sent tumbling to the ground.

The incident occurred June 26 in the 4900 block of 67th Street NE, according to court documents. The driver was revving his Honda Civic’s engine and burning rubber when he was asked to stop.

The driver made threatening comments and the older man stood in front of the car. The driver accelerated quickly, causing the father to “fly up on the hood,” the documents said.

The older man suffered injuries to his head, back and arms but declined medical attention.

The driver was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault and hit and run with injuries, both felonies.

Lynnwood: Damaged poles disrupt traffic

Traffic was disrupted on 196th Street SW at 52nd Avenue W. in Lynnwood most of Wednesday after a power-pole guy wire broke and two poles leaned precariously over the roadway.

Crews from the Snohomish County PUD spent much of the day removing and replacing the poles, spokesman Mike Thorne said.

The road was entirely closed after the 9:35 a.m. incident, according to the state Department of Transportation. One eastbound lane was opened late in the day, with traffic from both directions alternating through. All lanes were reopened at 7:25 p.m.

Contractors for the PUD were working on power lines in the area when the wire apparently snapped and the two poles fell, said Neil Neroutsos, a PUD spokesman. The lane closures extended into the evening, after the poles were replaced, because telephone, fiber optic and cable TV lines had to be reattached to the new poles, Thorne said.

Power never went out, Thorne said. “They did the work basically hot,” he said.

Everett: Fireworks blamed for garage fire

Fireworks are believed to have started a fire that caused about $10,000 damage to a detached garage and its contents in north Everett on Wednesday.

The fire was reported around 6 p.m. in the 2600 block of Grand Avenue, said Steve Parker, a battalion chief with the Everett Fire Department.

No one was injured and the garage’s owners were not home at the time, Parker said.

The fire is believed to have started by fireworks on the outside of the garage and burned its way in, he said. Everett police were investigating the case, Parker said.
