Red Cross looking for heroes to honor
The American Red Cross is looking for “real heroes” who live or work in Snohomish County to honor at the Snohomish County Chapter’s 13th Real Heroes Breakfast in December.
Nominees must have performed a heroic act between Oct. 6, 2007, and Oct. 6, 2008.
“We want to recognize those ordinary people who have shown extraordinary courage in helping others,” said Kay Ashenfelter, the chapter’s director of development.
Nomination forms are at the Red Cross office, 2530 Lombard Ave., Everett, or online at snohomishcounty.redcross.org.
Free sci-fi movie plays in Snohomish
Snohomish offers free classic movie nights at Hill Park near Blackmans Lake.
The movies start at dusk. “Earth vs. the Flying Saucers” plays Wednesday and “Festival of Classic Cartoons” on Aug. 13.
Overflow parking will be available at nearby St. Michael’s Church.
No alcohol is allowed at the park.
Food bank needs school supplies
The Sky Valley Food Bank is collecting donations of school supplies to help underprivileged students in the Monroe School District.
People can donate new backpacks and other school supplies or money to purchase the supplies at Sky Valley Food Bank, P.O. Box 724, Monroe, WA 98272. Checks must have the designation “School Days” on them. Donations are needed before the last two weeks in August.
