LYNNWOOD — Three people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and dozens of people were displaced by a two-alarm fire that damaged a Lynnwood motel Sunday morning.
Lynnwood Fire Department Engine 15 responded to a call about 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the motel, Best Lynnwood Motor Inn, in the 18100 block of Highway 99, Lt. Jason Turner said.
When fire crews arrived, smoke was pouring from the motel and occupants were fleeing. Two people on the second floor of the motel were rescued by a fire ladder, Turner said.
The fire was centered in a ground-floor unit, but quickly spread down the hallway and to neighboring rooms of the motel, Turner said. The fire was out within 20 minutes, he said.
Edmonds Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire District 1 also responded to the fire call, Turner said.
Fire, smoke and water caused extensive damage to the motel and all units of building are uninhabitable, Turner said. The Lynnwood fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, he said.
The motel served overnight guests as well as people who were longer-term residents of the motel, Turner said.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Snohomish County Support 7 responded and were trying to find emergency shelter for the displaced residents of the motel, Turner said.
