Animal shelter cats need immediate homes

The Everett Animal Shelter has cats needing immediate adoption at 2732 36th St., Everett.

Adoptions hours are Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. For more information, call 425-257-6000.

Radio presents community award

KSER (90.7 FM) seeks nominations for its first Voice of the Community Award. The award is for an individual who has “given voice to a community concern.”

Nominations must be made by Aug. 22. The station plans to present the award at “On Air,” the annual KSER Foundation fundraiser in September.

High-tech prosthetic leg demo planned

Cornerstone Prosthetics and Orthotics presents a demonstration of a new computer-controlled prosthetic leg from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at 8415 Paine Field Blvd, Mukilteo.

At the demonstration, those who have lost a lower limb can try out the high-tech “C-leg,” the world’s first and completely computer-controlled artificial leg. The leg uses microprocessors and can be programmed to match the unique gait of a person’s sound leg, and for different modes such as for biking, golfing and in-line skating.

Children’s association holds charity golf day

Providence General Children’s Association Guild No. 15 holds its fourth annual Charity Children’s Classic Golf Tournament. The four-person adult scramble begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Friday at Walter E. Hall Golf Course, 1226 W Casino Road, Everett.

The cost is $90 per person and includes greens fees, cart, a buffet lunch and prizes. Funds raised during the tournament are slated to support local charities including Deaconess Children’s Services, the Safe Kids Programs and Camp Providence.

Miss Latina to be crowned Saturday

Latinos Unidos plays host to the coronation of Miss Latina 2008 from 6 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday at Rancho Alegre, 30630 NE Big Rock Road, Duvall.

Admission is $25 per person for adults, $15 for kids ages 10 to 15. Children under 10 are free. The evening includes dinner, entertainment and music by disc jockey “Diamante.”

Mukilteo church offers free school supplies

The second annual Mukilteo Back-to-School Blitz is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Family Life Center Foursquare Church, 4424 Chennault Beach Road, Mukilteo. The back-to-school party features games, live music, free food, prizes and free school supplies.
