EVERETT — Police arrested an Everett man early Tuesday after a nearly eight-hour standoff.

The man, 45, refused to come down from a condominium rooftop around midnight in the 200 block of 100th Street SW, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.

He was threatening police with a shovel. The SWAT team was called for safety, Goetz said.

Around 7:30 a.m., the man gave himself up to police. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of stalking and obstruction.

Police believe the man may suffer from mental health problems.
