Growing interest: Anyone curious about sustainable farming — or simply fresh food — may want to check out this fall’s Skagit Valley Harvest Tour.

Hosted by North Cascades Institute chef Charles Classen, the nine-hour tour starts at Larkspur Farm with coffee and a pastry. From there, attendees visit Skagit River Ranch (chickens, cattle, hogs), Jones Creek Farm (apples, pears, stone fruits) and Blue Heron Farm (produce).

After a lunch featuring freshly harvested food, the tour hits the organic ice cream stand Cascadian Farm for dessert, and finishes the day with a tasting at Glacier Peak Winery.

The tour focuses attention on issues including sustainable farming and the local food movement.

For more information or to register for the tour, go to ncascades.org/programs/seminars and click on program listings.

The tour is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 21 and 28. It costs $125.
