No one injured in crash of World War II-era plane

ARLINGTON — A vintage World War II military airplane crashed about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the southwest side of Arlington Municipal Airport.

The pilot and owner of the plane, an Arlington man, and his passenger were uninjured, and no fuel was found leaking from the aircraft, airport manager Rob Putnam said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident, Putnam said.

Arlington police and fire departments responded to the crash, fire department spokeswoman Christine Badger said.

“It was pretty much a non-event,” Badger said. “The plane came down hard and sustained heavy damage, but everybody walked away.”

When the pilot landed, the plane veered to the side. The pilot tried to correct the plane but could not get the aircraft under control, and he put the propeller into the ground, Putnam said.

The airplane owner is an experienced pilot and he is not connected with Paul G. Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field in Everett, Putnam said.
