Homegrown: Has lived in the same house in Stanwood area her entire life, attending Cedarhome Elementary, Stanwood Middle and Stanwood High schools.

The big time: Plans to compete in agricultural sales at national FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) national convention in Indianapolis this fall. Attended convention last year. “It was fabulous. Spending all the time and seeing everyone else with the same interest in agriculture you do, it was just fabulous.”

Her product?: Hemp lotion.

Making the pitch: “It’s an all-natural product and it’s all the rage.” Favorites include cucumber jasmine and vanilla musk. Spends time in her sales delivery pointing out difference between hemp and marijuana.

FFA leader: Loves being part of FFA and is her chapter’s and region’s president. Plans to run for statewide office this spring. If elected, will spend a year crisscrossing the state promoting the organization and its events.

Critters: Lives on 1 1/2 acres and has always had animals. Likes to show them at fairs. Recently showed Patti, a dairy cow, at the fair.

Busy schedule: Takes five classes at high school, including third year agricultural mechanics, and two Running Start classes by computer through Skagit Valley College. Also a member of school’s National Honor Society Chapter and Future Business Leaders of America. Is taking a leadership class and has two jobs working for Schuh Farms Produce and Del Fox Meats.

Highlight: Favorite part of school is socializing with friends. “That’s about the only time I get to see my friends. I’m so busy.”

Rock on: Loves going to concerts. Favorite concert was Rolling Stones with Dave Matthews band opening at Qwest Field when she turned 16. Favorite Stones song: “Paint It Black.”

Career goal: OB/GYN or nurse practitioner. “My mom said I would always be the one taking care of the little kids and I love babies.”

Liking literature: Likes John Steinbeck and George Orwell. Finds Steinbeck’s “East of Eden” particularly powerful.

College: Undecided, but considering Washington State University, Georgetown, Marshall and University of Kentucky.

Heroes: “Famous ones” are Mother Teresa, Eleanor Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt; “non-famous ones would be all four of my parents,” including her biological and step parents.

Homecoming: Looks forward to homecoming football game and has helped plan for it with leadership class. “I love going to the home football games. It is so fun to watch. Not necessarily to play. There is just a little too much contact for me.”
