Community club sets annual fundraiser

Loyal Heights Community Club has scheduled its annual fall bazaar for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the club, 4305 269th Place NE, near Arlington.

Proceeds from the sale benefit the nonprofit community organization.

Granite Falls

Historical society plans fundraiser dinner, dance

The Granite Falls Historical Society plans a spaghetti dinner and a dance at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Granville Grange, 9401 163rd Ave. NE, near Granite Falls.

The dance begins at 8 p.m. The Jangles, one of the region’s premier Western swing bands, is set to perform.

Admission is $20 each. Proceeds benefit the Granite Falls Museum.

Marysville

City cable TV station to air candidates forum

Marysville cable access station TV21 plans to air a prerecorded legislative candidates forum beginning today. The 90-minute forum is scheduled to air through Tuesday with daily viewing times at noon, 4, 7 and 11 p.m. The forum was hosted on Oct. 3 by the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce at the Tulalip Casino and included candidates for races in the 39th and 44th state legislative districts.

Arlington Republican Val Stevens is running to retain her Senate seat representing the 39th District, facing Democratic challenger Fred Walser, the former Sultan police chief. The 44th District legislative race features Democrat Liz Loomis, who was appointed to the House position, and Republican Mike Hope, a Seattle police officer.

Horse rescue operation plans benefit golf tourney

The Equine Rescue Association is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday in Arlington.

The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Gleneagle Golf Course, 7619 E. Country Club Drive.

The group cares for abandoned and abused horses on property it leases from the Marysville School District on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. The group has experienced a drop in donations, its primary source of income, with the economic downturn.

Proceeds from entry fees will go to the Equine Rescue Association.

Churches plan Asbery Field beautification

Operation Serve Marysville, a coalition of area churches that work on community service projects, is planning a cleanup at Asbery Field on Saturday.

Volunteers are scheduled to gather from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the field, across the street from Marysville Junior High School at 1605 Seventh St.

More than 250 volunteers plan to remove a chain-link fence and old bleachers at the field and lay new grass, plant trees and shrubs, and re-seed and level the field.

Earlier this year, several churches joined forces to pull weeds, lay bark, and plant shrubs along a stretch of Fourth Street.

Stanwood

Festival of Trees tickets on sale

Stanwood Community and Senior Center volunteers already are selling tickets for the center’s Festival of Trees celebration, set for Dec. 5 at Tazer Valley Farm, 7314 300th St. NW, near Stanwood.

The Dec. 5 festivities include wine, hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and the sales of homemade Norwegian goodies. About 25 decorated Christmas trees are scheduled to be auctioned, with proceeds going to such organizations as the Camano Animal Shelter, Josephine Social Services, Stanwood-Camano Rotary Club, Stillaguamish Grange and the community center.

Tickets are $35 each and are available at the center.

There is no charge for family day events on Dec. 6, also at Tazer Valley Farm.

Animal shelters could benefit if woman wins

Linda Fauth of Langley has been selected as one of 10 finalists nationwide for Animal Planet’s Cat Hero of the Year award.

If she wins, the nonprofit Whidbey Animal Improvement Foundation animal shelters on Whidbey Island stand to receive a large donation.
