MARYSVILLE — Marysville police arrested a 25-year-old man this morning on suspicion that he sexually assaulted an acquaintance’s girlfriend.

The man was staying with the couple in the 10300 block of 53rd Avenue NE when he allegedly attacked the woman around 8:30 a.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The boyfriend had left a room and returned to discover the attack, Hover said. The boyfriend hit the suspect with a wooden stick and the suspect ran away.

Police swarmed the area and arrested the suspect around around 9 a.m. in the Fred Meyer parking lot. The man was expected to be jailed for investigation of second-degree rape, Hover said.

Some Marysville schools were placed in lockdown for a short time while police looked for the suspect.
