Opening: Everett artist to display her visions of Tuscany

Painter Laurie Crawford traveled to Tuscany in October to paint outside and she has returned to Everett to share her “plein-air” work during the Harvest Open House in Everett.
The show of Crawford’s oil, pastel and watercolor landscapes opens from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Van Valey House, 2130 Colby Ave., Everett. The show will be up through December.
Crawford is also showing through December during the “Four Season’s” art exhibit at Sisters’ Restaurant, 2804 Grand Ave., Everett. Some of her work there will include a piece she did on the annual lighted boat parade between Everett and Mukilteo.
Heavy metal: Works of steel, stainless steel, copper and brass by Camano Island artist Lance Carleton are on display through December at Islander’s Restaurant, 848 N. Sunrise Blvd., Camano Island.
Carleton uses new and recycled materials in his pieces, some of which are durable while others are more fragile, changing with intentional wear over the ravages of time. Carleton’s skill comes, in part, by finishing each piece with a natural patina, a brushed finish or a pigment.
“To create an artistic expression from the materials around me is the highest of honors, and I have the opportunity to do this each day,” Carleton said in a prepared statement.
Timeless pieces: The large-scale charcoal drawings and paintings of artist Mark Kang-O’Higgins create a theme for his new show called “Time.”
His work is being presented through Dec. 12 at Everett Community College’s Russell Day Gallery, 2000 Tower St., Everett.
In addition to being a painting instructor at EvCC, Kang-O’Higgins also teaches at the Gage Academy in Seattle. He earned his master’s in fine arts degree in painting and sculpture from the New York Academy of Art in 2003.
