Prison ministry seeks food, gift donations
Matthew House in Monroe seeks donations of Christmas gifts and food for families of prisoners. Items can be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and from noon to 5:30 p.m. Friday to Monday at 16207 177th Ave. SE, Monroe.
New, unwrapped gifts such as clothing, hats, coats, winter boots, games and gift cards are needed. Canned vegetables, potatoes, olives, candy, cookies and grocery gift cards also are needed. Monetary donations and gift cards can be mailed to P.O. Box 201, Monroe, WA 98272.

Edmonds-Woodway hosts hunger dinner
The Mixed and Multicultural Club at Edmonds-Woodway High School invites the public to a Hunger Dinner on behalf of Oxfam America from 6 to 8 tonight at 7600 212th St. SW, Edmonds.
The event includes keynote speakers from Burundi, China and Haiti and a past Peace Corps volunteer from sub-Saharan Africa. All have first-hand experiences with hunger.
Organizers plan to simulate real-world hunger conditions by randomly allocating meal tickets, which will determine the quality and quantity of food participants receive during the dinner. Sixty percent of participants will eat only rice while 10 percent will enjoy a three-course meal.

Mukilteo Library offers college info tonight
The Mukilteo Library invites students and parents to Finding the Right College at 7 tonight at 4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.
Admissions counselors from a variety of Puget Sound-area colleges have been invited to discuss topics such as choosing the right college, creating a time line for the college search and other recommended resources.
A second program, Essays, Visits and Interviews, is set for 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the library.

Introduction to foster parenting class today
Compass Health in Everett offers a free introduction to foster parenting class from 4 to 6 p.m. today at 4526 Federal Ave., Everett.

Free car-care clinic for women Saturday
The Lake Stevens Family Center and the Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center offer a free car-care clinic for women, single mothers and teens from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 9001 Airport Road, Everett.
Sno-Isle Tech instructors plan to cover automotive basics such as how to change and fill a tire and how to check and add fluids. Those who attend are encouraged to bring their own vehicles.
Main Street Subway plans to provide lunch with Starbucks providing coffee. The Vernon Road Les Schwab Tire Center has donated a gift certificate for a full tire rotation and wheel alignment.

Women’s group seeks donations for soldiers
Village Community Services Smokey Point women’s group seeks donations of baked goods, magazines, personal care supplies and other items (except aerosol cans or liquids) to send to soldiers overseas.
Items may be dropped off from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hawthorne Inn Suites, 3210 Smokey Point Drive, Suite 200, Arlington.
