“Valkyrie” (3 stars)
Stops short: The plot to kill Adolf Hitler in July 1944, meticulously planned by a group of men high in Nazi military officialdom. The film offers Tom Cruise (above) as would-be assassin Claus von Stauffenberg and a lot of authentic German locations, which add to the effective suspense. Somehow director Bryan Singer doesn’t quite commit to the sense of noble failure, and the film doesn’t entirely click in its second half.
Rated: PG-13 rating is for violence
Now showing: Alderwood Mall, Everett, Galaxy Monroe, Marysville, Mountlake, Meridian, Metro, Woodinville, Cascade
