Lend a hand to help nature
Snohomish County’s Surface Water Management staff invites the public to participate in two upcoming volunteer opportunities to add native trees and shrubs to historic waterways in need of attention.
Both events take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the given dates.
The first, on Feb. 21, is called the North Meander, which involves a section of the Stillaguamish River at Silvana.
The second, on March 7, is at the Lundeen Creek restoration site in Lake Stevens.
The plants are to be installed along the streamsides to enhance and protect salmon habitats and to bring the Stilly site back to its original condition.
No experience is required to participate. Volunteers are asked to wear boots, raincoats and hats. Event organizers will provide shovels, gloves, drinks and snacks, as well as planting tips and information about the sites and the differences between native and invasive plants.
Call Lin Kyan at 425-388-3464, ext. 4661, for further directions and details. Information is also at www.volunteer.surfacewater.info.
